Reception and Keynote Address: Dr. Adrian Lewis, "Omaha Beach: A Flawed Victory"

Tuesday, June 4, 2019

Published in 2001, "Omaha Beach: A Flawed Victory" is still considered the best analysis available on the Normandy Invasion and the battle for Omaha Beach. American forces on Omaha Beach were forced to improvise under enemy fire, and although they were ultimately victorious, the Allied victory was a costly one. Making extensive use of primary sources, Adrian Lewis traces the development of the Normandy invasion plan to explain why the battles for the beaches were fought as they were. Prof. Lewis has researched and written extensively on war, national security, and military affairs. Currently a professor of military history at the University of Kansas, Prof. Lewis is a retired soldier. He served with the 9th Infantry Division and the 2nd Ranger Battalion. D-Day 75th Commemoration speaker series sponsors are Jeffcoat Memorial Foundation and Pritzker Military Museum & Library. This event is free and open to the public with an author reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by the 7:00 program.
