Movie: "The Peanut Butter Falcon" [2019] - Arts Council of Dickinson County Winter Film Festival

Sunday, January 26, 2020

This comedy-drama follows Zak, a young man with Down syndrome ( Zack Gottsagen), who runs away from a residential nursing home to fulfill his dream of attending the pro wrestling school of his idol, The Salt Water Redneck (Thomas Haden Church). Zak befriends a wayward fisherman on the run (Shia LaBeouf) who becomes his unlikely coach and ally. They set out on a wild, life-changing journey subsisting mainly on peanut butter, which leads to Zak's wrestling persona: The Peanut Butter Falcon. The film's writer-directors met Zack Gottsagen, who has Down syndrome, at a camp for actors with disabilities, and crafted “The Peanut Butter Falcon” specifically for him. They made his character a little guy with a big heart, and big dreams and let him have his hero’s journey. The films in this series are free and open to the public, with free popcorn available. You're invited to bring toiletry items which the Arts Council will donate to the Abilene Area Food Pantry.
