Movie: "Maiden" [2018] - Arts Council of Dickinson County Winter Film Festival

Sunday, February 2, 2020

"Maiden" is a documentary about Tracy Edwards, a 24-year-old cook on charter boats, who skippered of the first ever all-female crew to enter the world’s biggest sailing event, the Whitbread Round the World Race, in 1989. The story of Maiden’s upstart, defiant run at the famously grueling Whitbread has all the elements of an epic adventure tale—50-foot waves, life and death drama, near-mutiny, thrilling victory—grounded in a perceptive group portrait of a team of courageous young women led by the remarkable, complicated Tracy Edwards. They pioneered the sport of long-distance racing for the women who followed and inspired women in all fields to prove themselves the equal of men. This film series is sponsored by the Arts Council of Dickinson County in partnership with the Eisenhower Presidential Library. All films are free and open to the public. You're invited to bring toiletry items which the Arts Council will donate to the Abilene Area Food Pantry.
