Ike Book TALK: "One Soldier's Story" by Bob Dole

Tuesday, May 12, 2020

Speaking not as a politician, but as a wounded G.I., "One Soldier's Story" focuses on Dole's harrowing wartime experiences with a gripping account of the years he spent recovering from his wounds. Decades before he became a United States senator, Bob Dole was first a boy growing up in Russell, Kansas. Themes of family and community are a vital part of his story. This book discussion will be led by Sandra Wiechert, a native of Wichita with an M.A. in American History from Kansas State University. A long-time resident of Lawrence, she is the author of "Historic Mount Oread: A Catalog of KU's Landmarks." Talk About Literature in Kansas (TALK) is presented by Humanities Kansas. Ike Book TALKS are free and open to the public. Books in the series can be checked out of the Abilene Public Library or purchased at the Eisenhower Presidential Library gift shop.
