  1. De Gaulle / Eisenhower: Alliance and Friendship in War and Peace

    September 23, 2019, 9:00 AM - February 2, 2020, 4:45 PM @ Museum Special Exhibit Gallery

General Charles de Gaulle and General Eisenhower both belong to the common national heritage of their respective countries. The two met for the first time in June 1943 in Algiers, and De Gaulle presented Eisenhower with the Cross of Companion of Liberation in June 1945. Both were heads of state during the Cold War. Their work is a source of reflection and inspiration for today’s world. The Charles de Gaulle Foundation and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum, in partnership with the Eisenhower Foundation, strive to promote and honor the legacies of these great leaders. Together these institutions collaborated with the Musée de l’Armée (French Army Museum), to create this exhibition, which will contribute to strengthening the bonds between France and the United States. We are grateful to The First Alliance Foundation and the David Woods Kemper Memorial Foundation, presenting sponsors, for bringing this exceptional exhibit to Abilene, Kansas.

  2. Eisenhower's Middle Road

    October 14, 2019, 9:00 AM - March 31, 2020, 4:45 PM @ Library 2nd Floor Gallery

Dwight D. Eisenhower’s leadership style as President reflected his practical, level-headed Midwestern roots: Work from the middle to accomplish what those on the extremes saw as impossible. The exhibit "Eisenhower’s Middle Road" spotlights a prescription for peace and prosperity that guided Ike throughout his eight years in the White House. He sought balance for America – the pursuit and preservation of social gains, for instance, while refraining from government overreach. This exhibit explores six key areas reflecting that approach. The Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library, Museum and Boyhood Home provided content and design. Work/research was funded by a grant to the Eisenhower Foundation from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation of Kansas City, Missouri.
