Exhibits

  1. De Gaulle / Eisenhower: Alliance and Friendship in War and Peace

    September 23, 2019, 9:00 AM - February 2, 2020, 4:45 PM @ Museum Special Exhibit Gallery

General Charles de Gaulle and General Eisenhower both belong to the common national heritage of their respective countries. The two met for the first time in June 1943 in Algiers, and De Gaulle presented Eisenhower with the Cross of Companion of Liberation in June 1945. Both were heads of state during the Cold War. Their work is a source of reflection and inspiration for today’s world. The Charles de Gaulle Foundation and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum, in partnership with the Eisenhower Foundation, strive to promote and honor the legacies of these great leaders. Together these institutions collaborated with the Musée de l’Armée (French Army Museum), to create this exhibition, which will contribute to strengthening the bonds between France and the United States. We are grateful to The First Alliance Foundation and the David Woods Kemper Memorial Foundation, presenting sponsors, for bringing this exceptional exhibit to Abilene, Kansas.

  1. Lunch & Learn: "Eisenhower: Up Close and Personal" with Mary Jean Eisenhower

    October 24, 2019, 12:00 PM @ Visitors Center Auditorium

Join us for a very special program and enjoy a rare opportunity to hear Mary Jean Eisenhower share remembrances of Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower through a granddaughter's eyes. Mary Jean was born while her grandfather was in his first term as President of the United States, and was christened in the Blue Room of the White House. The Eisenhower grandchildren were very close to their grandparents and spent many days at the White House. Her family lived near Ike and Mamie's Gettysburg Farm until they moved to Brussels when her father, John, was appointed U.S. Ambassador to Belgium. Mary Jean is the President of People to People International, which was founded in 1956 by President Eisenhower. She is the recipient of numerous humanitarian awards and honorary doctorates. The Lunch & Learn series is made possible by the Eisenhower Foundation and the Jeffcoat Memorial Foundation. This program is free and open to the public. A light lunch will be provided on a first come, first served basis.
