Presidents Day

Program Description

Geared for grades 4-12. February 19, 2024.
This online program will run approximately 40 minutes and will be offered at 3 different times: 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m. Central.

Celebrate Presidents' Day at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Museum! As our 34th President, Dwight Eisenhower enacted two programs that would create numerous advancements and opportunities in the United States - NASA and the Interstate Highway System.

This engaging online program will answer the following questions:

Why is the Interstate Highway System considered one of the “Seven Wonders of the United States”? What were President Eisenhower’s goals for building the Interstate Highway? How has it impacted the everyday lives of Americans?

Since President Eisenhower signed the National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958, known as NASA, the United States has not only been a leader in space exploration but also a leader in creating innovations that have changed the way we live.

What are some of those innovations? What was the “Space Race” and why was it important to Americans?

Discover the answers to these questions by examining a variety of primary source artifacts from the Dwight D. Eisenhower Museum and Library. The history and importance of these programs will be discussed. Participants are encouraged to interact with one of our IKEducators and ask questions throughout the presentation.
