“For history does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid.”

President Dwight D. Eisenhower, Inaugural Address, January 20, 1953

It has been 68 years since my grandfather, Dwight D. Eisenhower, first took the Oath of Office as the President of the United States and, everywhere I look, I can still see his lasting impact on our world today.

Currently ranked 5th in the C-SPAN Presidential Historians Survey, my grandfather’s reputation and status continues to rise, as evidenced by the opening of the Eisenhower Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., last year.

Because of people like you, Ike’s legacy of leadership continues to be celebrated and shared. And it is because of our generous donors that the Eisenhower Foundation launched a brand new website last year. Thousands of people from across the globe have already used this new website that YOU helped us build! Your support allowed us to design an engaging new site that will position the Eisenhower Foundation to educate and inspire people for the next 75 years.

With the base website built, the truth remains that there is far more that needs to be done to secure the legacy of President Eisenhower and The Greatest Generation.

Can I count on you to renew your support in 2021?

During the first part of the year, the Eisenhower Foundation will unveil three new additions to our website. In March, we will introduce the first of these additions, the IKEducation Primary Source Library, filled with archival documents, historic photos, and 3-D imaging of artifacts for teachers to utilize in curriculum development and for students to use for research.

Through our partnership with the Eisenhower Memorial Commission, we will acquire their digital resources, or E-Memorial, and launch them on our website in April. The E-Memorial includes an interactive timeline, pivotal moments, and an audio tour of the Washington, D.C.-based memorial.

In June, to commemorate D-Day, we feature the brand new Ike’s Soldiers World War II Honor Roll. This online database will allow anyone in the world to honor a World War II veteran by submitting their story to this growing tribute to those who secured our freedoms we now cherish.

These plans are only possible with you by our side. With your help in 2021, the Eisenhower Foundation will continue to build our new website as a digital bridge to connect Ike’s legacy with current and future generations.

As 34th President of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower led our country to some of the most peaceful and prosperous times in history. Under his leadership, America saw huge advancements in numerous areas, including foreign relations, science, and technology.

Within months of assuming office, President Eisenhower ended the Korean War, saving countless American soldiers, and managed to keep the Cold War “cold,” despite growing tensions with the Soviet Union.

When Dr. Jonas Salk developed a vaccine for polio, President Eisenhower purchased enough to inoculate every child in the United States, effectively eliminating the virus that every parent in the 1950s feared most.

In response to the Soviet Union’s launch of the artificial satellite Sputnik I, President Eisenhower established NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), fueling the “Space Race” and ultimately securing America’s place at the forefront of space exploration.

These are just a few of Ike’s presidential accomplishments that people can learn about through our new website that you are helping us build. Your continued support is vital as we expand our online outreach.

As one of our most loyal supporters, I hope you know the difference you make. The new website you are helping us build will serve as a vehicle to transport the legacy of Dwight D. Eisenhower to future generations who will come to appreciate what it means to be an American because of YOUR contributions to our efforts.

But I need to know…can I count on you to back our efforts in 2021 by sending a gift today? It is up to concerned citizens like you to make sure Ike’s example of leadership continues to inspire Americans for generations to come.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours Truly,

Mary Jean Eisenhower
Granddaughter of President Eisenhower & Foundation Board Member
