BIOGRAPHY

Dan Bontrager was born in Haven, KS the oldest son. He entered the service as a conscientious objector, which is one who is opposed to serving in the armed forces and/or bearing arms on the grounds of moral or religious principles. His family had Amish beliefs but at that time, there was little support for Conscientious objectors and Dan withdrew the rating. Bontrager's duty was a truck driver for medic's in the European Theater. He drove across France taking supplies and moving wounded for the Army. He knew German and this skill was used often by his company. Dan had three other brothers that served in WW 2, all returning home safely.
