Farewell Address, Military Industrial Complex

President Dwight Eisenhower delivered his final speech as president in 1961. In it, Eisenhower warned of the growth and influence of the “military-industrial complex” —the combination of government and defense industries that Eisenhower felt should not be allowed to shape U.S. policy. Eisenhower’s speech was one of the most notable presidential farewell addresses since George Washington’s in 1796.
